Course Outline

Introduction to Change Management

  • Lecture: Define change management; types of organizational change (structural, process, cultural, technological). Explain the difference between change and transition.

  • Discussion/Q&A: “Think about a change you’ve experienced at work. What made it challenging or easy?”

  • Practice: Icebreaker activity — “Change Timeline” where participants map a personal or professional change and share lessons learned.

Understanding the Human Side of Change

  • Lecture: The Change Curve model (based on Kübler-Ross), emotional responses to change, and why resistance happens.

  • Discussion/Q&A: “Which emotions do you notice in yourself first when change occurs?”

  • Practice: Group exercise — review short case study of a company introducing new software. Identify possible emotional reactions from different team members and propose supportive responses.

Personal Resilience and Adaptability

  • Discussion/Q&A: “What strategies help you adapt faster when facing a new situation?”

  • Practice: Guided role-play — participants practice reframing negative statements about change into positive, action-oriented perspectives.

Communication During Change

  • Lecture: Importance of clear communication; active listening; asking clarifying questions; avoiding rumors.

  • Discussion/Q&A: “What information do you usually need to feel comfortable with change?”

  • Practice: Small groups develop a ‘communication checklist’ for employees during organizational changes. Share and refine ideas.

Working Effectively Through Uncertainty

  • Lecture: Managing workload and priorities during transition; focusing on what can be controlled; maintaining collaboration.

  • Discussion/Q&A: “What can you control in your daily work during periods of change?”

  • Practice: Scenario simulation — participants are given a fictional reorganization plan. In teams, decide how to adjust tasks and maintain productivity.

Building a Positive Mindset Toward Change

  • Lecture: Growth mindset principles; benefits of embracing change for career development.

  • Discussion/Q&A: “Have you ever benefited from a change you resisted at first? What changed your perspective?”

  • Practice: Reflection exercise — participants list three potential personal benefits from a change they are currently facing at work.

Action Planning and Wrap-Up

  • Lecture: Summary of key lessons; the role of individual initiative in successful change.
